October 2011 News & Updates
10/26/11 - Congrats to Andrew O'Donnell on his first place Age Group finish at the 2011 Hershey Half Marathon! Also pictured below are several members of the Tuesday Morning Running Group.
10/24/11 - October 2011 AGCS Standingsposted. Runners need to participate in at least 6 AGCS runs to be eligible to win. The 2011-2012 AGCS year is just starting out (Sept. to August) so come on out! The next AGCS on will be the November 20 @ 8:30 AM - Carlisle Army Heritage 2.5 or 5 Mile.
Placed Hap Miller's Harrisburg Marathon book as the featured item on the home page. Please follow the link for more information. Both "HARRC After Dark" and "HARRC In The Park" will remain on the left side bar for people to see the results and information - if all goes well these events will be held again next year

9/29/11 - OCTOBER 9th SUNDAY RUN CHANGED TO THE HARRISBURG HALF-MARATHON! Sorry we forgot to update this earlier. Since the Half-Marathon will now be held on that date, we are using it for our Sunday Run. All runners are encouraged to either participate as a runner or volunteer to help make this annual event a success.
9/27/11 - Image folders have been created and Mike Percherke's photos from the HARRC After Dark 7k are now uploaded. Check them out on the "IMAGES" page. More photos from other events will be uploaded in the new format eventually (read: as we get around to them).

We had a good time at the 2011 Annual Picnic. Several runners did the 5k run together with friends and family, while Steve Whittle had dreams that he was on the Food Network.

"Marine Corps Marathon Entry for Sale! - Anyone interested in running an incredible marathon in our nation's capital on October 30th? This race is sold out, but I am able to transfer my entry if someone is interested. The race entry fee that I paid was $90 (payable to me) and the transfer fee is another $30 (payable online). The HARRC Sunday Run for September 11, 2011 is TBD. HARRC has had a Club Run every weekend for over 30 years, and we're not going to let a little water stop us now :) (and thanks again to Gary Grobman, who managed to hold the run during Hurricane Irene! that was a close call)
9/5/2011 - Several of us ran the HARRC In The Park course this morning. I have posted a link to my Garmin reading of the course - which includes detailed map information and elevation. Please visit the HARRC Facebook Page and follow the link posted on our Wall.
9/4/2011 -HARRC Shirt Order Forms can be viewed and downloaded here! The form does mention an online order option, but as of this date we do not have the online form ready yet. Hopefully it will be up within the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, I look forward to receiving your orders in the mail :)

8/4/2011 -Runner of the Year standings have been posted. There is a temporary link to the current standings on the left sidebar (or click here if you don't see it). An online "race result" entry form is currently being developed for members to enter in their "official race" times. The current ROY page may be merged with the online entry page when it is completed.

7/22/2011 - A few new races have been added to the Local Race Calendar, and results of the 2011 Pizza in the Park 5K Prediction Run #2 have been posted. Looks like we had a great turnout - looking forward to the next one!
7/15/2011 - Periodically we get requests for information about places to run, help with putting together races, information on local running groups and more. Please view the Local Running Resources page for information. It is also a work-in-progress so if you know of a resource, club, running location (with a website for more info) you feel we should have listed please email us as firstname.lastname@example.org.
7/9/2011 - From Hap Miller: Some Carlisle Summerfair Photos have been posted to the race website: http://www.carlislesummerfair.org/ThirdDay/Run/. There's a nice shot of the starting line with Tadd, Patty, Hap and Gary (all age group winners) in front.
A note from J.R.: Please excuse the somewhat awkward sizing of the PDF. It's a large spreadsheet and the best I could do for now. It's best to view the PDF on your computer so you can zoom in and out to see the stats better, as they will probably be too small if you print them out.
7/5/2011 - The Saturday Kids' Runs have been discontinued for the summer. Anyone interested in continuing or starting the Kids' Runs again in the fall please contact Angela Episale at email@example.com. She would be happy to coordinate something for interested families.
7/3/2011 - Just in from Hap Miller: Great job at the Summerfair races everyone! Patty Parker and Mary Lou Harris had outstanding times in surpassing the record for their age group (53:37), set last year by Patty. This is the 34th year for the 10K, no other age group records came close to being broken, way to go Patty & Mary Lou! Also a big thanks to Marge Lebo for helping out with the results. Full results should be available in a few days.
Added a "Local Running Resources" page. This was just started today, so if you have input and URLs to contribute, please send them to firstname.lastname@example.org. Hopefully new runners, out-of-town runners, and perhaps some veterans will be able to find something of interest on the Resource page eventually.

6/17/2011 - A couple of Announcements:
1) We are seeking volunteers to organize the 2011 Annual Picnic to be held on 25 September 2011 at Adams-Ricci Park in the Commonwealth Pavilion (Pavilion nearest Imagination Station). To volunteer e-mail Brad Colwell at email@example.com
2) Area M Special Olympics (http://www.sopam.org/) Jim Collins is seeking volunteers. The event will be held on September 18 at the Hershey Middle School, with the run/walk course at Founder's Park across from the school. The first event starts around 9:00 AM. All volunteers must contact Jim Collins prior to helping, as they require emergency contact forms to be filled out and submitted prior to the event. 3) Frank Crupi and Tadd Morris are organizing a HARRC Trail Race tenatively scheduled for October. This event is in the initial planning stages - if you are willing to volunteer with this event please email Frank Crupi at email@example.com.
4) HARRC offers local race timing services. We are seeking members to join our Timing & Equipment team (Walt Greene and Jim Collins). Members who time local races may request to be paid up to $30 per race they time. We offer low-cost timing to support our local running community and hope that the $30 per race will entice new volunteers to take part. 5/29/2011: October 2010 "Burg" writeup on HARRC - Last October we had the pleasure of having Pam Waters, writer for "The Burg" magazine, run with us. We've located the PDF of the article and posted it to the site. If you, another member, and/or the club itself are featured in an article please let us know so we can include them in our "HARRC In The News" Files.
ALSO - In today's Carlisle Sentinel newspaper there is a special section called "Age Is Just A Number," in which Hap Miller is featured on the first article. The Summer Issue of HARRC's Newsletter has been uploaded to the website! In this issue Brad Colwell talks about his upcoming plans for HARRC, we introduce three new volunteers, and Mark Ondo shares his experiences as a first-time marathoner.
2011/5/1 A "Kid's Run" group is launching will be launching this spring. These runs will take place every Saturday morning at 9:30 AM at the northwest corner of Front and Forster Streets in Harrisburg, unless otherwise noted (see Schedule - May 14th will not be held in favor of the Pickle Chase & Kid's Run event).
These will be informal runs and the organizers would like very much for you to bring your children for their participation and input. The Kid's Runs will be 1/4, 1/2, 1 and 2 miles - they will also be timed and the results will be posted on the website for the kids to see how well they're doing. Participants should bring their own water, and parents are expected to stay to help with the event.
