I started running in high school, however I was a sprinter and hurdler. I started running distance in my early 20's. I started running to feel better about myself. As I got into running more and more, I found it very theraputic to run and talk with others, to think, to regroup and it really helped to keep me grounded with some of the daily "yuck" in our lives. I then became involved with the Road Runners and found a great group of friends - many of whom I still keep in touch with today. The whole circle -- physically, emotionally and mentally with running came together for me and I truly love all aspects of running and the positives that it has brought to my life. A great friend of mine that I worked with several years ago came to me one day and asked if I would help her start running, she knew I was a runner and she really wanted to begin. We picked a day to run and we ran out the rail trail for 10 minutes and then back for 10 minutes. That was the start of a 5 year running experience for she and I. We met every morning at 6:30 and ran before work. She is now running 10 mile races and ran a few miles with me during the2011 Bob Potts marathon. I have not been running as regulalry as I should be, but when I can I do and I still love it and what it brings to my life. |
