I've been running since middle school, but around age 13, I developed patella-femoral syndrome in both knees and was forced to hang up my running tights for eighteen months before returning to the track. I am a short distance runner (or if you prefer the term "sprinter") so my long distance times are slightly mediocre. When I turned 15, I developed plantar faciitis in my left foot which restricted my ability to run at practice. However, after pushing through the pain and long periods of time with little or no practice, I've fallen into a bittersweet love of running.
After my second year on my school's track team, I decided to give hurdling a try and it actually worked out pretty well. Now my main events are the 100 dash, the 100 hurdles, and the 300 hurdles. As a result of my new love of hurdling, I will be attending a hurdles demonstration course this summer at Penn State.
As I said, I am by no means a distance runner, but I will be running a half marathon in November of this year and to my utmost delight, my dad is running it with me! So be prepared for some epic training blogs this summer. :) |
