About Me
I've run off and on since I was about 12 yrs old, when my dad got us a family membership to the downtown YMCA in Columbus, Ohio. They had this tiny indoor track that overlooked the basketball court on the floor below. I remember that 25 laps was a mile!
I would drift away from running and then come back to it every few yrs.
In 2005, my marriage finally imploded (thank God! Yes, it had been coming for a LONG time). With my ex FINALLY out of my life, I was happier than I had been in years...and I eat when I'm feeling good! (I tend to lose my appetite when I'm upset or angry).
In the summer of 2006, at my heaviest, I remember that I weighed-in at 172.6 lbs. I started running a little bit; usually a couple of miles during my lunch hour...before driving to Subway and getting a foot long Italian cold cut sub for lunch! Needless to say, my weight just fluctuated, but never stayed down for long!
One morning in Feb 2007, a few months shy of my 42nd birthday, I looked at myself naked in the bathroom mirror and the first word that came to mind was 'matronly.' I thought, 'OH...that is NOT good!' I decided that it was time to get serious about getting back in shape! I made a lot of changes to my eating habits, starting drinking more water, and bought an exercise bike and a few workout DVDs. The weight started to drop off.
In May I started running again. The weight started coming off a little faster and my energy level was through the roof!
In June 2007, I heard that the company I was working for at the time was putting together a relay team to run the Baltimore Marathon. I signed up and started preparing to run the 1st leg - 6 miles. By race day, Oct 13, 2007, I was more than prepared to run those 6 miles. I had such an amazing time, running the streets of Baltimore w/thousands of other runners! I. was. hooked!
In 2008, I ran the Baltimore Marathon Relay again...and a couple of 5k races alone as well....
Altogether, I've run 31 races so far (as of April 7, 2012) - 2 full marathons, 11 half marathons, and 18 other races from 5k to 10-milers.
I've kept the weight off and now see myself as an ATHLETE.
I'm not the fastest runner. I'm more of a middle-of-the-pack runner. But I continue to grow and improve, soaking up all the knowledge I can about training, nutrition, etc. I'm currently studying to get certified as a personal trainer & life coach. I SO want to help others turn things around & regain their lives!
